Equipment and TechnologyFrom laptop computers and iPads to high-speed Internet and Wi-Fi, the Hampton Library has the technology and equipment you need to get quick and reliable information.  Our library staff are happy to help you use any of these resources.

Computers & the Internet

We have public-use computers available for use in the Reference, Young Adult and Family Departments.

All of our computers have:

  • Internet access
  • Printing capabilities
  • Word-processing software (e.g. Microsoft Word)
  • Microsoft Excel
  • PowerPoint
  • Media players like Real Player, Windows Media Player, Shockwave, and QuickTime
  • USB ports, enabling you to work with existing data and save your data.

Printing is 15 cents per black & white page, and 35 cents for color copies, per side.

Earbuds can be purchased for $2.50.  USB flash/thumb drives can be purchased for $7.00

PATRONS MUST SIGN IN AT REFERENCE BEFORE USING THE COMPUTER. Computers are available for use by Hampton Library cardholders with full privileges on a first-come, first-served basis. Patrons of other libraries who are given permission to use the computers by library staff must do so in the knowledge that they might be “bumped” at any time by a Hampton Library cardholder.

The library may not be held responsible for a patron’s loss of data or equipment. The library staff will assist with troubleshooting when possible and when appropriate. The library staff reserves the right to ask a computer user to clear the screen of any words and/or images which are deemed by the staff as inappropriate. The library staff reserves the right to demand that any patron who does not adhere to this policy relinquish use of the computer. Staff members may, in addition, require that patrons exhibiting poor behavior leave the building. Computer privileges may be revoked.

Patrons will not be signed on for computer use 15 minutes before closing. Computers will be shut down 5 minutes prior to closing.

We have a wireless network with 3 open access points, so you can surf the ‘net with your laptop or other web-enabled device from anywhere in the building.

Copy Machines

We have 1 photocopier available for public use. The cost is 15 cents per SIDE for letter and legal sized copies and 15 cents for 11 x 17 copies.  Color copies are 35 cents.  Please ask for assistance to make color copies.

Aladdin Outlook Closed-Circuit Magnifier

eReaders and iPods

The Hampton Library does not circulate such devices for patron use at the present time. However, our knowledgeable and helpful reference staff would be more than happy to assist you with downloading materials from our digital collection to your personal devices.

A Fax machine is available for public use. The SEND cost is $2.00 for the first page and $1.00 dollar for each additional page thereafter. The RECEIVE cost is $1.00 for the first page and 50 cents for each additional page thereafter.
